Swedish Exhibition 1 – Folkhemmet
The radio series “Lort-Sverige” caused a debate about the quality of housing. Connections were made about the poor state of the homes and the mental state of the residents. Reforms and state-initiated courses to teach Swedes a better way of living took place.
The goal was to establish Folkhemmet (“the people’s home”).

Similar thoughts have existed – and exist – in many other parts of Europe. The focus on social reforms, with improved social housing became important in the postwar period. As a result, many new towns and satellite towns were built for working people.
