Gretas Gamlingar started by standing outside the local shop, talking to visitors. They learned a lot about climate change, and was soon arranging lectures, and taking part in demonstrations and festivals. Gittan is also working in the EU project Ruractiv, addressing energy conversion in sparsely populated areas.

Much of the environmental awareness in Sweden came to life in the 60s and 70s. Those who were (then) young were swept along, and got involved. Today, these people have become seniors, but realize that the struggle is the same, now as then.

There are – if not countless – many, many groups of seniors in Europe, coming together for the same reason as Gretas Gamlingar. As in Sweden, the members were young 40-50 years ago, the time when environmental consciousness was born.
